Brendon McCullum hit a record 158 from a paltry 73 deliveries for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League’s inaugural match in Bangalore.
The New Zealander smashed the stunning total to send his side to 223-3 as he broke the record for the highest individual score in a Twenty20 innings, surpassing Cameron White’s previous record of 141 for Somerset which had stood since July 2006.

The 26-year-old gave Bangalore Royal Challengers’ bowlers no chance as he brashly returned everything they threw at him with interest.
McCullum lured Bangalore’s bowlers into a false sense of security as he took nothing off the first six balls of his innings, but the fury was unleashed as he quickly moved to 18 within the next four deliveries.
Not content with taking the highest runs total, McCullum also hit the highest number of sixes in a Twenty20 innings as he rattled of 13 to mark the opening game in some style.
